World-renowned funnyman Seth Rogen has taken his talents to the weed industry. The actor, comedian, writer, and director has teamed up with Evan Goldberg to launch a new Canadian weed brand, appropriately named “Houseplant.” This is a project backed by Canopy Growth Corp. and is their latest recreational cannabis brand that, according to the press release, is “focused on product and quality, education, and guidance.”

You may know Seth Rogen from one of his popular films like Pineapple Express, Superbad, The Interview, and Sausage Party. It’s no secret the celeb is fond of cannabis and it comes as no surprise that he’s joined the army of celebs entering the cannabis industry. “Houseplant is a passion we’ve brought to life through drive and dedication,” Rogen said in the press release. “Every decision we’ve made for the business reflects the years of education, first-hand experience and respect we have for cannabis.”

THE BRAND

The Canadian star offered a teaser of the new brand on his personal Instagram in anticipation of the launch end of March, beginning of April, noting that things have been in the works for at least five years. The company’s first strain, dubbed Houseplant Sativa, will debut in April. Two more strains named Houseplant Hybrid and Houseplant Indica, respectively, are expected to be introduced later in the year.

British Columbians will be the first to try Houseplant Sativa through provincially regulated retailers and online starting in April 2019. Softgel capsules and pre-rolls will also be available as part of the Houseplant line.

Goldberg mimicked his partner’s enthusiasm: “We are so proud to be launching in Canada, our home. After spending five years diligently preparing for the launch of this company, we’re excited to be able to share our passion for cannabis with Canadians in this way.”

WHERE TO GET IT

Houseplant will be based in Canada. Rogen, who’s originally from Vancouver, has been a vocal marijuana supporter and avid self-proclaimed user, so it comes as no shock that his latest venture is to start a weed brand. When Canada legalized cannabis last October, Rogen publicly praised his native country’s decision to do so, calling it a “huge win.”

Rogen even announced in a post on his Twitter that Houseplant made strain specific LP’s to pair with the bud. The Sativa LP has upbeat music and the Indica LP has super mellow music, while the Hybrid LP is right in the middle, according to the “Freaks and Geeks” star. Playing on that same 80s aesthetic, Houseplant’s color palette, VHS and vinyl-inspired packaging, as well as their educational videos are reminiscent of a simpler time in both weed and comedy.

The Vancouver native’s brand comes as another win for Canopy who recently were able to get Martha Stewart to launch a line of CBD products for animals and humans. “I am looking forward to working with the Canopy Growth team,” Stewart said in a statement. “I’m especially looking forward to collaborating on developing products that can help people and their treasured animal companions.” Who will be the next celeb to jump on the cannabis train?
